Is It A Love Match?
I like to think of paintings as living beings. They exist in the world and are wanting to converse and form a relationship with you, the viewer. This relationship is just like any other human to human interaction. Where there is a coming together to meet, then, a first impression. The first impression between viewer and painting can go one of two ways. The moment of contact is brief and the viewer passes by - or - the viewer stops, lingers, perhaps steps back. An engagement blooms; a silent conversation stirs. Maybe even, if I dare say, emotions surface or questions begin to form. This is the spark. This is when there’s potential for the feeling many find pleasure in engaging with - is it love?
In this instance I like to think of myself as Lady Danbury. A matchmaker of sorts - that encourages the environment for a love match to strike between a painting and you.
