Ancient Art, Ya Dig?

England was so inspiring! I felt a certain type of way seeing the Roman Baths and also traveling abroad after a long hiatus. For awhile, I’ve known that I love pilgrimaging to archaeological sites. I’ve hiked the Incan trail to Machu Pichhu in 2018 and explored Chichén Itzá and other Mayan structures in 2019. Fast forward to today and I’m happy to be back on ancient grounds. I learned that the Baths were built to surround the bubbling hot springs. That this constant movement and temperature of the waters were observed as sacred and healing. To bathe and even drink the waters was to cure illness and give vitality. You can even today still take a swig of hot spa water from the fountain in the Pump Room Restaurant in the West Baths. The water is said to contain 43 healing minerals - but fair warning the taste is less than great!
