Coffee With An Archaeologist

Last month, I had the exciting privilege to grab coffee with, KayLee Blum, an archaeologist working here locally in Indianapolis! I found KayLee through the University of Indianapolis website where she’s pictured at an excavation site digging knee deep in dirt. So naturally I said to myself, that’s the woman I must meet! KayLee now works for the Indianapolis Department of Transportation (INDOT) and fun fact : she’s the FIRST archaeologist to be hired there! She specializes in bioarchaeology which I learned is the safe removal and excavation of human remains. I got a crash course in what working on an excavation site in Indiana looks like and what type of artifacts can be found when building new roads etc. During our coffee, someone overheard our conversation and asked KayLee about a specific site here in Indiana and if she had any updates on the land and artifacts found. This moment really amplified the importance of KayLee’s work and how it directly affects the community and history of Indiana. Keep being magic KayLee!
